I visit Singapore for culinary trips for a few days, and I truly enjoy their flavors. Luckily, I don't need to queue for too long.
Very recommended!
When it comes to old school curry rice, most will think of the one at Kitchener road. In term of old school feel and atmosphere, I think this curry rice at Block 40, Beo Crescent is a gem find. For those who grew up in old hdb estates, you can find good old time here. Order a kopi Kao siew dai to go along with for a happy and contented meal. Food is tasty and plenty parking lots for those who drive. Just look at the queue, definitely worth trying.
Messy yet delicious curry rice! Must order is the fried pork and fried egg! And of course… lots of curry sauce!! Always have queue so do need to be patience with it. Of course, can order other dishes as they are nice too.. :)
Went back to try the curry rice after pandemic seems the curry flavor has changed slightly is a bit more spicy and the pork cutlets is slightly thicker but not as crispy as it few years ago.
Still one of the best curry rice since my childhood days. Loved the pork cutlet that is super crispy and flavourful. The cabbage and steam minced pork ball is also must have dishes.
Pork cutlet 1/5 (Mostly the crust, no meat)
Curry 0/5 (Tasteless, most prob mix with alot of water)
Auntie handling of food also a big turn off. The whole food table looks like a pigsty.
First time trying the famous curry rice, didn't expect the standard to be this low.
Came after lunch hour as such not much dish left and the queue was pretty fast. Used to have it often when young as was staying around the area.
Felt that it’s not as nice as it was before. For this plate of curry rice with char siew, pork chop, egg and prawns, it cost $7.80. Apparently the 2-3 pieces of prawn cost $2.50 if didn’t hear the auntie wrongly.
The pork chop is good. Well, overall it’s nice and recommended but if it’s super long queue, doubt i will join the queue. 😅
Used to be a regular for this curry rice.
Taste changes after the coffeeshop renovated.
1)Butterfly Prawn 4/5
Give me a old school taste
Crispy but kind of salty.
Really remind me of my grandmother cooking.
2)Pork Chop 3/5
Supposed to be their signature dish.
But pork chop is not as crispy as the past.
It seems like it has been fried earlier and left for some time.
Pork chop taste is also kind tasteless.
Really Very disappointing
3)Asam fish 2/5
Fish is not very fresh.
Asam curry is served cold.
Fish smell is bit strong.
I also unsure why the curry taste is very different.
It lose the strong fragrance and curry taste.
Curry sause is very diluted and bland.
Another key disappointment
Conclusion 3/5
Their signature pork chop and curry sauce is a disappointment
I don't think travel all the way for this.
Rather go for thr near by Loo's curry rice instead.
In a small little kopi joint... weekday lunch q around 20min but worth the wait as price was pretty reasonable n nice traditional hainanese rice taste. I had the pork chop, dark sauce pork belly n cabbage for $5.50
